Have had my '30 coupe since last August so I'm still a relative 'newbie' in many areas, but I'm learning - with some help. Here's the deal: driving along and notice the ammeter is not charging. It has been until now. So break out the Les Andrews books and dig in. So with my voltmeter here's what I know: battery is good - 6.5V. Have 6V at both wingnuts on the terminal box. Resistance across the cutout terminals looks like an open circuit. Generator output at a fast idle shows about 18V - too high, I know, so I'll move the 3rd brush down some. Also put a jumper across the cutout terminals and still no charge on the ammeter. The ammeter stays about centered while engine is running and turning on the lights will show a discharge. I'm using a solid state cutout so there should not be a 'sticking' problem with that. The ammeter on the car was wired backward when I got it and I changed that so I'm pretty sure it's wired right. So what do you think? Where do I go next?
