no low beam lights

I have a '36 coupe in which I replaced the steering box with a '37 box with the appropriate light switch bracket. I am using the '36 light switch rod and the same light switch body. I can turn the light switch clockwise one click and turn on the running lights. I turn the light switch one click counterclockwise and get high beam but cannot move it more than half-way to the second counterclockwise click to get to low beam lights. I don't want to force it and break the horn button assembly off the rod. I relaxed the bail wire but no change. Anyone know what is wrong? Thanks!

It looks like I may have solved my own problem. I replaced the upper switch body (the part that has the rotating contact points) with an old one from a model A that I happened to find in my parts box. The new one that was in the car has contact points that are too high . The old one has points that are flattened on top and maybe this is why it is easier to rotate? The moral of the story is--don't throw out those old parts--or be leary of new repro parts! Bill F
