Recently saw a posting on Marketplace for a 1947 Ford water truck. But it's a 1940 or 1941 by the front grill and further identified as a 1941 by the dash and side hood trim. Of course there is no title to confirm anything. I sent the seller a message that it was a 1941 not a 1947 and the only response was 1947. So much for trying to help some one.

My friend bought a 1934 chevrolet pickup from his wifes great uncle and I went to see it. What I saw was a 36 high roof chevrolet pickup without a doubt. When I pionted out all the differencesand showed them in pictures on my phone, his wife went off on me to the point that my friend( her husband) since highshcool and I no longer speak. So yea I get it . Some folks just know you can'know more then they know. I try very hard not to come off like a know it all and love to learn new things about old cars and trucks. Tim

pistonbroke: Your friend since high school must be VERY smart as he knows everything about 34 and 36 Chevy pickups. How can he be so upset about such small matters? You would think he would appreciate your input as most folks would.

No title, bill of sale only per posting

The seller was going on what her Dad told her. I sent her some photos off the net showing 1941 and a 1947 big trucks. She did reply that she would investigate further. Probably doesn't matter anyway since her asking price for a truck with no title is too high. IMO

1940 and 1941 Ford Sales Brochure Covers.
Notice that the centre part of the Grilles are different.
Truck in question is a 1941 Ford, as you suggested.

When a family member is told a certain thing repeatedly over the course of years it moves from fact to belief. This is especially true of items or stories from beloved, deceased family members. No non-family person is going to subsequently change that belief as it goes to the core of family trust and lore. Facts don't matter - only faith.

Has 1941 internally adjustable headlight buckets also. These were used on the COE until 1947, but the bucket style headlight was gone by 1942 on Trucks.

The seller experts on Facebook Marketplace are the worst. 1 in 10 appreciates the correct information. Otherwise, "how dare you try to tell me what I know."

The 'hood ornament' is a '41 just exactly like the pickups.

No more wasting time with this guy.
Thank you for your post.

I have a friend with a family member that owns a “1940 Ford” car……he asked if I wanted to see it and I said of course!…….when we got to his garage I was sure I was looking at a ‘41….when I mentioned this I was told “No, it’s a ‘40….they’re worth more”….I just said “you have a very nice car”……..Mark

I’d lay a bet that each and every one of us could name an individual who fits the description.
This is really a good thing because we can all be happy knowing how smart we are and everyone else is so stupid.

That's why I never correct the folks who see the flathead in my 40 and tell me it's a HEMI.

I have a '41 Ford fordor that is titled as a '40. it was manufactured, according to the serial #, in late '40's. it is definitely a '41 body.

Google AI can be pretty impressive. Here's what it says about this situation :

"In West Virginia, a 1941 Ford manufactured and sold in late 1940 would typically have been registered as a 1940 model.

During this era, West Virginia was one of many states that practiced "year of sale" or "year of registration" titling. Local vehicle clerks routinely looked at the day the car was driven off the lot to determine its legal year, rather than the design year designated by the Detroit factory."

I had heard that somewhere, (probably here on FordBarn) and was going to post about that. Glad I didn’t, cuz AI writes so much better than I can. Tight, concise, short paragraphs. AI really is impressive.
