No cotter pins?

Trying to get my grandpa’s old 46 Ford coupe back on the road. I am curious why my rear axles don’t have cotter pins? Just nuts and washers. I know they get heavily torqued, but why no pins? I have exposed the entire axle threads and there are no holes for them. Is this common?

The pins may have been sheared off by removing the nuts. When done so the tops with form threads. I also suggest looking closer and you should find them, try wire brushing the area and look for just an outline.

I will look again, but I don't recall seeing any pins when I took the nuts off a few years back. Does anyone have an idea about how far back from the end of the axle the holes are?

This pic should get you close-enough. DD

I've seen axles and front spring perches that have been hammered so much that the holes get closed off by mushrooming affect. If someone did that and restored the threads then the pin hole would be history.
