Newby Distributor Question on B Model swap

Howdy Guys, Had a good read through Info here regarding swapping the Stock model a Distributor out for the Self advancing B model unit , Seems like a pretty simple swap although i have run into a snag " I have noticed My B Model Distributor Upper shaft drive tang is located in the centre and not offset like the stock Model A Unit, This means it wont engage with the Middle shaft ofset tang drive when i go to install it, is there a Matching middle shaft i can use , Is it the B Model Middle shaft i need to Find "

Or have i got myself an od Distributor

The tab should be off center and slip right in. Two of my Model A's came to me with B distributors and I removed them and installed the A distributors.

A & B use the same lower shaft.

Bob

Thanks Guys, Time to check again if what i thought was a B Distributor Might be 33 or later? as the shaft Drive tang is smack in the middle no Offset ?

I will investigate over sum suds

That looks a little offset to me. Sometimes the notch on a repro shaft needs a couple strokes with a smooth file. I've had a couple new shafts that took about 3 or 4 strokes to make them slip into the distributor.

Thanks Tom, I tried that and its still wopples out of alignment as this suckers tang is Plumb in the middle? , Will the stock Model A Top Shaft interchange with the Auto advance unit" Bob has ID its the same part number

Thanks Guys

Yes, the intermediate shaft should fit both the A and B distributors.

Have you lifted the shaft out so you can bench test the fit?

Thanks Tom,

Yes i have a new Model A Middle shaft which i was trying out prior to removing my stock Model A Dizzy, Thought i would replace that during the refit

There was a post on here about a year ago stating that the Model B dist had a design flaw which caused the timing to be retarded thus causing the B engine to run hotter than it should . A search will locate this post.

Great info on retiming the B Dizzy for the A using a Timing Light & Bolt on Timing fixture ,

Thanks for the Help Guys,

Take your set or your friends set of drill bits and check the off set with the drill shanks. That will tell you if you have any off set. Don't force them in just find a snug fit then do a little math.
