Newbie here looking for some advice

Good afternoon, folks!

I am a bit of newbie to the board but not a newbie to building cars. This time I decided that I had to purchase a '39 or '40 coupe as the basis for another hotord. (I had previously finished a '46 that has served me well.) I am a newbie to the '38, '39, and '40 cars, wishing that I had done my homeork before making this investment.

The car came with a pair of loose fenders that look too fat for the car. Plus the rear of the fender seems to be too long to connect to the running boards that were also loose. But the holes line up to the holes in the cowl.

The car also came with a '40 De Luxe grille and hood. Therefore I am going to attempt to put it together as a '40 hotrod as opposed to the orginal '39 I thought I was going to build.

So I purchased a gorgeous pair of fenders last week and got around to holding them up to the car today. The holes don't line up to the holes on the cowl and the rear of the fenders have the extended edge as depicted in a Bob Drake drawing published on the Interweb. That diagram implies that they fit a truck.

Is there a definitive way that I can identify a set of fenders that fit the 77B body? The body included in the '39 De Luxe, the '40 Standard, and the '40 De Luxe?

I am not concerned about concurs appearance as another thread discussed but looking for a set of fenders that will bolt up and can be eventually aligned to the '40 De Luxe style hood that came with the car.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses!

Ladies and gentlemen,

My sincere apologies for using the word "hotrod" in my post! I have participated in many restorations in the past, including a frame off GTO. I have recently had some fun trying my hand at duplicating an old school hotrod, and thought I might try it again. I will move the HAMB site.

Thanks for the advice, 19Fordy!

jmt, No need to apologize.
Don't move from Fordbarn.
Join HAMB also and be a member of two great sites.
I transformed my 40 from stock to hot rod.
