New water pump

I had o get a new water pump, the old one cracked and I was just wondering is there anything that needs to be done after I get it, the pump is on the car and I just could use some advise. I just finished rebuilding the top part after a blown head gasket and I'm just worried about water not circulating or the pump not being lubed, how can you tell if the pump has been lubed, and how do you lube the water pump?

Buy the locking collar for the front of the shaft. Best to buy a pump with a seal in the rear of the rear bushing to keep the grease out of the antifreeze. I grease the front bearing every time I grease the chassis and only give the rear bushing a small shot of grease since I don't have a seal in the rear of the bushing yet.

Buy the leakless/greasless water pump and make sure the rear shaft is not too long and hits the protrusion in the front of head. Grind the back end of the shaft to shorten it if it's too long. Put a little sealer on the waterpump mounting bolt threads, or they might "weep" coolant for awhile and you'll think it's the new pump leaking. Don't ask me how I know!! Bill W.

Most new pumps come with a sheet that gives this information. Where did the pump come from and did it come with this?

It did come with a sheet and I ordered it from Brattons. I was running the car at first and it was squealing from the belt and I assumed the water pump was dry, but my great uncle who was helping me get it running said to just run it for a while and I did the next day and the squealing stopped, I am finally happy that it stopped and I am waiting for some clear weather to finally take it out for a short drive to check everything out.
