New user questions: social groups & bookmarks

Social groups do not seem to be very active, so what are they useful for?
Is there a way to bookmark posts?
Finally, what is the difference between a thread and a post?

If I wanted to save a thread I would add to your favorites, maybe make a new group there for saved threads from here. If you comment on a thread you should be able to find it under statistics.
A post would be your or others reply in a thread, the thread would be the whole string of posts.
