New tire for 26 Model T Ford

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a 26 Model T roadster pickup, wooden wheels. I’ve got a flat and I’ve never changed a tire before. I’ve got a spare but it doesn’t have the wooden spokes inside.

I want an extra spare with wooden spokes. Where can a get one and is there a way to mount it to the car? It’s a pickup. Also, where can I get a jack? I’ve never done this before.

Thanks everyone!

Start off by telling what size tire you have mounted now, there is a difference between how the 21 and 30 inch tires are removed. While it had been done in the era, the parts would be very rare to do the change over to allow the wood wheel to be demounted from the hub on the car like a modern car, the front and rear hubs are different. It would be redundant to have a demountable rim mounted on a demountable wheel. There are lots of Model T jacks on ebay but a modern style jack will work. You might try google Ford Model T tire (or tyre) changing.

As Redmodelt said, the wooden spokes & wheels remain on the vehicle & the rim is removable. A 21" rim is shown below. The rim will fit all 4 wheels & would have a tire mounted. Often the spare was carried on a bracket on the left running board. Your pickup probably has 21" wheels - check the tire size on a tire, it should read something like "4.40X21".
They could be 30 X 3 1/2 which would still have a demountable rim but the tire is changed differently.
If you give the size & maybe a picture someone here can walk you through changing the tire.

In either case the first supply needed is Bandaids & it is wise to send the children away for the day - they do not need to hear the language required for the process!

I think it would profit you to buy an owners manual for your car and spend an evening giving it your thorough attention some evening. They are available as reprints from all the Model T part suppliers. You do not need any more spokes than what would come with the car from the factory.

Model T and never changed a tire? even a bycycle? A jack, how bout yer back?
not being wise guy but many times even I have lifted these with my bare back lol.
any box store cheap jack will do. Don't know what your mean by wood spokes? they
all have wood spokes unless you have wire wheels. If wood spokes all you need is
the rim: rim plus flap, tube, tire, equils a new spare...........
