New style oil pan gaskets?

I just got a set of pan gaskets from Snyders and there is a big note on the package that says use NOTHING when installing them as they are self sealing.

Is this a new product?

Has this been discussed her previously and I missed it?

Has anyone used them right out of the package and what was your success?

Thanks

Are these the ones with rubberized cork? If so, yes they have been around for several years. The tourqe value is about 5 lbs if I remember. Even with that mine squeezed out and the pan leaked as if there were no gasket at all. I went back and purchased the regular old gaskets and used sealant with no problems.

Dennis, if this the dark red looking cork gasket, I used it and it works rather well. I believe the direction sheet states no sealer and to only use 6 pounds of torque when installing or it will distort the gasket and leak.Ed Saniewski.

I'll second that. I used this gasket and only used red sealant next to the front rope seal. I used clothes pins to hold it in place and took the bolts to about 6 or 7 pounds. No leaks at all after 1100 + miles. I highly recommend both Snyder's and the gasket!

I installed a set of these gaskets from Snyder's. They are kinda redish-brown. The gaskets sealed just fine. Put a little Form-A-Gasket at the rope seal. I like the self-stick feature. Place the gaskets on the engine pan rail, install the pan and you're done.

Why torque them? Just make the pan bolts a little snug. Seems like now a days everyone wants to torque everything. Not necessary!

Guess that's why I said 6 or 7 pounds, because I didn't use a torque wrench. I just "felt" them snug. ;)

i have the ford tool "T" handle for the pan & valve cover . hard to tighten to much . love it ! .............. steve
