New Spark Plugs

Fella's

I changed my plugs 100 miles ago, do they look normal to you ?

1 and 2 look dry but very black, 3 and 4 look black and some what wet .

How often should I clean my plugs? do they tend to foul ? Thanks for helping a newbie .

I cleaned them, put them back in ......now for the test drive .Having fun learning from all you pro's.

I can burn black fouled plugs white by closing the gav, the plug in the picture has never been cleaned, I did reset the gap once, it is a repro 3X I have been using since 86, most likely you have a mixture problem or you don't close the GAV enough

you can also try w18y plugs which will burn hotter than those w16y's. as mentioned make sure your carb is adjusted properly

Mitch is right on. My spark plugs use to look like that when I used Champion W16 Y or Motor craft TT-10. I now use the Champion W-18 plugs and they run clean as the spark plug that Kurt in NJ has pictured above. The W 18 is a hotter spark plug.

ON my coupe with 33B engine & 5.9 head,The C hampion C16C lok just as clean at 14,000 miles as they would have at 50 miles.Thay are still good for many more 1,000,s of miles.Lean off the Gav-choke-To 1/8 or less from the closed position. If still running rich, then carb needs seeing to.

Give a call to John or Jim who are outstanding members of your club. Ask if they would check your carb. Great guys and the best when it comes to carbs and ignitions.
