New project comes home

Been awhile but not a whole lot done. Engine is ready to go in. Replaced timing chain set and put new gaskets in. The engine was very clean inside. Steering box is out for rebuild. Bed is off and up on stands to do a little rust repair. Got my tires and wheels mounted up. Leaf springs are next on my list as right now I have great access to them. Going to rebuild them with new bushings and take each spring pack apart. Will update when I get more pics.

This weekend is in the 60's, crazy so I thought it would be a good time to get the firewall fixed. I wanted it done before the engine goes in. It had a ton of extra holes, had firewall mounted master cylinder at one time, holes that looked like they were made with an axe, etc. Yesterday I cut all the patches and welded them in. Today I put a coat of red on it because I want the engine compartment to be clean and neat.

I'm not buying it - that had to be more than a '2 PBR' job? LOL

I like your plans for it -- nice solid driver, plenty of power, simple/easy parts availability, something the wife can drive, etc.. Now I love flatheads (big time), but there are plenty of great engines out there and sometimes you need to go for extreme reliability, low costs, easy to drive, etc..

No matter what anybody says, I'd be a bit more comfortable with my wife or girlfriend driving what you're putting together - especially if she is putting some miles on it. The reliable power you'll get out of this engine could not be duplicated in a flathead for 5X the cost - and it is a very simple engine, trans, rear setup.

I think you made a great choice and this truck is coming along just fine. Come Spring, the ole' girl will be on the road!

Ha, yeah a few more than two! Today I decided to drop the 302 in to see how everything fits. Carb base should be level right? I hope so because that is where I have it mocked up. Also might push it back another half inch but I think I have enough clearance for the fan/radiator as it is.

Finally got an original fordomatic column for the old girl. Wow are these impossible to find. Also got an NOS indicator And needle for it. This will make shifting the C-4 easy and it will retain the original look.
