New Owner - Could use some advice

For touch-up paint, I would take your great looking coupe over to a professional automotive paint store and have them scan & color match. They can make up a small quantity, even in a rattle can if you want. It's been 5 or more years since I had that done, but the price of a rattle can was only about $20 at that time -- even in Alaska.

Don't do anything to it. Just drive the crap out of it.

What Carl said, if the metal is showing and then what Bart said, make is safe and use the money you saved from not painting it and drive the tires off of it.

Nice car. Ford had lots of color schemes, check with a vendor [SNYDERS] new springfield is one for a book on colors, they should be able to help you and are good to deal with. NOW...drive it have fun with it and down the road if it needs anything fix as you go and enjoy. Got mine in 2002, drove it, worked on it a little at a time, and decided I would paint it when I retired in 2009, since I did I still drive it and enjoy it, put 51,000 miles since 2002 when I bought it, still going strong and when the time comes for rebuild, will take care of that when it gets here...ENJOY YOUR CAR, AND HAVE LOTS OF FUN!!

many many cars have been torn down right after purchase, with the good intent of restoring them, but which end up as a pile of parts in the garage for 20-40 + years. The advice to get it running right and drive it is the best. Once its really in your blood, you can stage a restoration over several winters so that each stage is complete by the next driving season. BTW, have you looked into paint and body costs lately? Thus the currently popularity of "Preservation Cars"

Now a VIN question. There seems to be some confusion as to the year. Title says 1931 but looks like the 0 was typed over with a 1. It has registered 1930 vintage plates. The VIN is A1411784. And the verdict is....?
I "think" I can see vertical welting on the running board splash panel, if so, it is an Early '30, like my Minerva was. Click on her pic & you can see the 2 piece splash apron. Bill W.

Thanks for all the information. I will check the engine serial number. To clarify a bit when I said restore, I really meant preserve. This won't be a ground up restoration at all. I just finished an 8 year restoration on a 1928 Buick (don't gag)http://www.flickr.com/photos/93790810@N07/8530733583/ and bought this Model A as a play toy.

Question, this is my first Model A so I need to stock up on any manuals out there. What are some good sites to download some PDF's?

thanks

Beautiful Buick. I have a 27 Master Roadster in the garage with my Fords.

there is a sticky thread here with many good web sites. But, none are complete. You will need some books. No one book is complete. But with these 3, you will have a very good start: Service Bulletins, Les Andrews' books, and the Restoration and Judging Standards.

I just checked the engine and the number is the same - star followed by A1411784 and under that is M292. It does have a 2 piece spash apron with the vertical welting. It also has the 1928-1930 instrument panel not the 1930-1931. Think it's an early 1930 model??
