Good morning everyone I am currently collecting parts and pieces for my 29 roadster build , I'm wondering what most of you do with your fuel tank needs?

If you are making a hot rod, the hot rod forum is listed at the bottom of the main page. This is the forum for original model A Fords..

Welcome to the Barn. Gas tanks are made of "unobtainium". Rebuiding the best one you can find is in order. Cleaning an old tank ia a chore, some guys will post pictures of their method of cutting the tank open, restoring the inards and welding closed again. Hope this helps.
We like pictures! So please post pictures of your progress.
Again nice to see another A being resurrected. :). Jeff

Welcome to the club. Like Jeff said clean and or replace. That is the only way as they are not made by anyone.

There are a few Model A (and T) guys in and around Epping.
We live next door to Epping and were at a "happening" on Rt 27 last night.

There are numerous approached to collecting parts and it usually depends on how much time and money you want to devote to the project.
You can usually spend less money by spending a lot of time, etc. but there are some things that can only be done with money.

We should meet sometime..

I just loaded up a friends 29 pickup that is in a basket. It just left Epping and headed for New York.Cab paint and assembly was what was left to do.Now his nice 30 coupe is next in line to sell.He also has a 29 roadster pickup cab in pieces,I may take that one myself.I do have a done chassis and a new pickup bed sitting here for a future project.I just drove by your place a couple of hours ago in a black roadster.I put it away because it is clouding up.

If you want to restore one to near original, this is the place. There are work arounds for things like fuel tanks, but before we get into it we need to know which direction you are heading, Hot Rod or original. No disrespect to the Hot rod group and I respect some of the beautiful machines I have seen in my lifetime, I just happen to like the original route..

If your working on getting your engine going. A temporary lawn mower tank will take the problems of a dirty tank out of the picture for now. As far as a dirty tank there are chemicals that can help but it will be a chore. holes in a tank are a real pain i tried to weld one on a truck when I was younger and it was futile. yes it was long dry when I got to welding but I gave up and was lucky tanks were available for that model. I have used ball bearings and pebbles to shake clean a motorcycle tank and with enough time that worked well. There should be many threads to be searched on the ford barn. I often get better results using google then going to ford barn pages than i get through the search engine on site. But if you are hot rodding the HAMB (hokey *** message board) has some amazing minds doing some stuff. I remember a thread i read on doing disk brakes with some timken bearings to the model A spindles. with monte carlo parts. that would cost only about $300

USANH & Keith True good to see some locals here, I think I purchased some slash aprons from you Keith. I would love to be able to pick your knowledge as I'm very green with model A's but been a real fan for some time now

I'm hoping to use as much original parts as possible on this build, other then going fender less. I have picked up a rolling running 30 banger and have a 29 rough roadster body looking to put together, I'm in need of some roadster stanchions if anyone knows of some.
