Hello all! I just towed my Dad's 1929 Woody home. It's sat in my parents backyard for over fifty years. My Dad bought it in 1950 and my parents moved into the house in 1955 with it. As kids we all played in it and on it. I finally brought it home and now the work can begin. It's pretty rough but I'll get it going again.

My huckster, which was a CCPU back in the 1950's when I was in high school, has a similar story to your Dad's rig. Good luck with getting it going again-it can be done.
 
Welcome and you have no idea how glad we are to hear that you keeping your family's car. The history and stories you can tell is worth keeping it alone.

How much do you know about A's?

Lets start off with some recommendations.

1) You already found the the second best source of help for your woody.
2) Find a local club to join (the best source of help is hands on help). Knowledge and manpower for whatever it cost to join.
3) Start off with the Les Andrews red book.
4) There is a specialty group that "plays" with woodies. (yes I said that).

5) take pictures and store copies in more than one place (it happened to me hundreds lost in a computer crash)
6) throw NOTHING AWAY no matter what it looks like. You can decide what to do with it after the restoration is complete.

Welcome to the Barn! Wow, that is definitely rough. But the good thing is that dry heat of yours kept the wood from rotting. Which is going to be your biggest expense. Either way you got a really neat car. Get her safe to drive and drive her for a while before you do anything like restoring her. Many cars start out be restored and end up in boxes.

I agree with Mike. Get her drivable first and enjoy it for a while! You have plenty of time to worry about the cosmetics.

Also, Mike V. gave you an excellent list to start with!
 
Welcome and good luck with your Huckster. For some inspiration here is the way my old huckster looked when I brought it home (picture 1). My family thought I was crazy! Pictures 2-3 shows it when I was done with it.

beautiful job pgerhardt on the huckster..those words of "your crazy" can give one extra incentive to follow through... love it
 
Please forgive my ignorance on these matters, specifically original station wagons, but doesn't the drivers door suggest that it was a proper station wagon originally?

Wensum, yes it's suppose to be a station wagon. The rear doors were removed at some time in its life. It also does not have the rear seats. On a side note what part of New Zealand do you reside? We went there in 2011 to Auckland and surrounding area. One of the most incredible places I've ever been too!
 
The car was always in Southern California but now it's here in Nevada. Originally I wanted to fully restore it but the more I think about it I'm gonna get it running. The body is in sad shape but this thing has been sitting to long and needs to get out on the road. Then I'll do the full resto. I want my parents to see (where ever they may be in the after life) this thing roll down the road on its own power. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Let the journey continue.
 
Neat! Body is rough indeed but seems sound! Im with the others, get her running and enjoy it for the time being.
 
Welcome to the barn. I too have a woody. It's a 29, actually built in December of 28, with many 28 mechanical parts, and no finger joints . I finished it's restoration in 1974 and with lots of maintenance, it's still in show condition.

I have a '31 which had a similar history being passed down through the generations.

Hi there,
I added my comment as some members were referring to it as a huckster and it appeared that it might have been something better than that.
Yes, we live on the North Shore of Auckland and feel truly blessed to be able to enjoy this beautiful and safe environment with mild weather, even through winter.
Our neighbours are from Minnesota and winter over here to escape the bitter cold and snow of Minnesota
Whilst I'm not a beer drinker, the choice of quality NZ wines keeps me a very happy man!
