Hello everyone! I'd just like make an intro. I grew up in a family that mostly had Fords in one form or another. I've also had a lot of experience with Fords back in the late 70's up to the mid 80's while working at a small shop in So Cal. While they took in anything with wheels, they did get a lot of Fords from the 50's up into the late model cars at the time. They also got a few pre 50's Ford's from time to time from some old folks that lived near the shop. Those were a real treat to service. I enjoyed working on them due to their simplicity and straight forward designs. On most Fords at the time, I was able to make a majority of the repairs just using simple hand tools as well.
I've owned my share of Fords as well such as a '63 F150, '70 Maverick, '72 Courier (OK, not a true Ford:rolleyes: and was a PITA to work on in some cases), and an 85 F150. I currently own a '94 F150 and an '01 Crown Vic PI. I don't particularly like working on the last two due to the complex electronics. They do however have OBD so that helps take the guess work out of some things.
Since I have most of my experience with 50's and newer Fords, I'll probably lurk in this section mostly but I will pop around in the other sections that might have something of interest or I might have something to share.

Thanks, I'm really enjoying this forum. It only seems to get more interesting every time I visit.

Thanks for the welcome Don.
AFAIK, there really aren't any mechanical differences between the civilian and PI engines. There is no "police" chip either. It's mostly the accessories the car is built with.
http://www.crownvic.net is a good site for really good info on the subject.
