New License Plate question

My advice is to say a prayer and be patient. My experiences with CADMV make me furious just thinking about it. I personally have not seen or heard of having duplicates made. If they are, I doubt they would fly with the folks in Sacramento. Talk with other car guys and see if there is a friendly DMV office nearby. They are not all the same and some seem to be better than others. I had a pair of old black and yellows from the sixties on my truck. Had all the paperwork and reg. tags too. 10 hrs. of back and forth arguing, I ended up with new ones. They broke my spirit and I just don't care anymore. I took a big handful of horse crap and smeared them up real good. I'm happy- Good luck my friend -Q

I don't know about other States but here in California, there are authorized DMV affiliates. In the town I live in there are at least two. I prefer to go there. No lines, personal attention, nothing to prevent honest DMV business. Bring your license plates. I registered my two antiques, showed my Year Of Manufacture license plates. Batta Boom, Batta Bing, done! I will not set foot in a government DMV office unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks to all for the info given.
Here's where I was going with this issue:
I have one (1) original plate, the Worlds Fair plate. It is physically larger (longer) than a std car plate.
I can have a duplicate plate made, but only in the std size plate. I was going to have a duplicate made if I didn't have to show both plates to the DMV.

i'll look into plan B
Thanks
Jim

Just be advised it's against the law in California to "duplicate" license plates.

Here is a picture of the original plate, restored from a mangled, torn, rusted original, and the duplicate. Done by the guy in PA

And did you notice this on his website?

NOTE: Duplicate plates may not be legal in your state, and in such states, are for display purposes only; check with your state or local agency for more information.

By now you should know. You need two original good condition legible Ca. plates that do not match ANY registered vehicle in Ca. I just got mine done and it was a simple thing. Good luck, Jim
