New in old battery?

Has anyone fit a new sealed battery into an old case?
I just picked up this chassis that has what appears to be a frozen/broken battery...
Thinking I might be able to gut the case and fit a new type sealed battery in there..

Thanks
Zach

sorry for the bad photos... I wasn't taking just the battery...

I've been running one in my '40 for years. It is one of the authentic repos from Antique Battery I bought many years ago. I saved the top portion of the lead intercell lugs, and the caps. I then used a piece of masonite, to which, I mounted the lugs and caps. Drilled the holes for the terminals as well. It all comes apart in minutes if you need chance the Optima in it. The worst part is getting the guts out, it's a tough job, but very well worth it. Again it was in my '40, so I'm not sure the group # of the "A" battery will hold the Optima.

Don't know the answer yet but I have a script case and an optima battery sitting on the bench waiting for me to try. The fit may be possible but it will be very tight. The case will need to be trimmed thinner and the tabs on the bottom of the optima will need trimming. I am also considering splitting the case to add the quarter inch that would make it easy. The case could be cut where it would be hidden by the carrier which has some extra room. The problem then becomes finding something to fill the gap in the case and an adhesive that would hold it all together. There is room for a splice plate inside the bottom to secure the halves together so the filler doesn't take all the stress. The posts are slightly farther apart on the optima but that should cause no big problem. I keep studying the problem but have yet to find a method I'm confident with.

I had come to the same conclusion that Jerry has, but my ford battery case is now under the bench, and the Optima is in the car ---for the last 14 years.

Antique Battery is working on coming out with an original style battery by the end of the year. We reviewed the Axion original wet battery in the Model A Times a while back it is a very nice original Script battery.
