Hey Tod,
Please take a look at the aluminum Winfield that I posted above and another look at the iron Winfield . Particular attention to the really wide gasket support areas of the alum head....BETWEEN cyls 1/2 , 3/4. Now look at the really narrow gasket support same areas of the iron head. VERY VERY important consideration ...is wide/sufficient gasket support in these TWO areas , particularly the higher comp ratio gets.

Rick you are looking at this the wrong way the reason for the narrow area on the original head was to improve gas flow you need space between the valve and head wall for good flow
try reading
Phil Irving book tuning for speed
Harry Ricardo books
Triumph Harley Davidson and Briggs and Stratton all found reducing valve shielding helped with power

Hey Colin,
Thanks for your input, as all opinions welcome to give Tod info to consider to ask questions about :) !

Although I know/realize what you have said, I'm 'looking at it', to generate thinking to improve ...if possible...the areas where MANY gasket failures occur . Many people , over the decades, have creative ideas on combustion chamber shapes/sizes and ideas on head development ... no one of these (A/B) efforts seems, in practical application , to have 'solved/perfected' the search. Our A/B perfect head comb, shape/size and sealing is a particular challenge because of limiting clamping ability of Fords 14 stud arrangement. I'm talking higher comp heads here. Study the written word of the latest person (Brumfield) to have successfully created such heads for our hobby. He did a marvelous job ,IMO, but suffered lots of ifs/ands/buts , about his work and product. He recognized the challenges of making higher comp heads with Fords limited clamping force design.
It's ALL good if Tod has the necessary input/ideas to address making a better head for us.

Looks like we're over 100, so that will easily justify making these asap. As I said in the other thread about these, I will make the simple squarish version of chamber first. If this directly interests you at this time, and you would like to be on a list of first buyers, please email me and I will start a list of contacts.

did I miss an approx selling price?

So it looks like a;
Stock looking, model A pump mounted, iron head with 6:1 compression with a compression chamber shape that gives the best results is the most popular.

By "stock looking" we are still talking about the look of the Winfield, right? That is what this was all about.

I don't know, the question was "Would you prefer/buy stock appearing head" not "Would you prefer/buy a Winfield stock appearing head"

In my case, if it does not look Ford stock I don't want it.

The original heads had a spark plug hole threaded 7/8"x 18 and the threads measured 1/2" thick and you can buy an adapter to the inexpensive 14mm plug. The Winfield heads were 18mm and the threads were only 3/8" thick and I've not seen an adapter from 18mm to 14mm.
So which plug would the buyers prefer, 7/8", 18mm or 14mm?

Wow, the 'meaning' of words !
Yeah, if you look back over this entire discussion, I too thought that WE were discussing Winfield and Weiand heads from the start.
So, most agree on most sought after attributes, i.e.- best performing combustion chamber; most liked CR at 6:1; most want A type water pump attachment. AND , if we are/were talking stock appearance...of Winfield , most want that appearance ?
I'll have to say here/now that I thought most WERE talking Winfield stock appearance. OTHERWISE, just buy the already available Snyders stock A appearing 6:1..off the shelf ..no

BTW...Look at all the Winfield head images in this conversation and COMBUSTION CHAMBER shapes talked about. The most productive chamber shape requires that the spark plug be located for best performance. This would not and will not be in STOCK A location. That was discussed..no ?

Right. The whole thing has been regarding iron Winfield style heads with one or the other combustion chamber. Guess this poll is useless. Now I have to rethink just how quickly I will proceed on this. If you want a "stock looking" head, I make them already for Snyder's in the 5.5 to 1 and 6 to 1 versions. I thought that was common knowledge.

I also answered this based on a stock looking Winfield head. Like Tod said, if you want a 6:1 standard looking head, go to Snyders and buy one of Tod's heads from there that has been available for ages.

I have no problem using champion D 16 plugs in my cast iron Winfield Crowsfoot and no problem using NGK R 7' s in my Al repop Winfield Crowsfoot.

I'm sorry if I F'ed up the whole thread/poll. The request for the poll came from a third party and not Tod directly so I was not clear in the request for creating the poll.

Maybe we can still save it, how many thought it was NOT for a Winfield head and voted. It should be easy to see how many and I don't think it was many that thought it was for a Ford head from reading the separate posts.

From the looks of it. People were talking about Winfield heads. I think its great seeing if people would be interested. I would even post this over on the HAMB. Tons of guys into bangers over there. I started this weekend taking down a motor. That I will be hopping up.
