New Head Gasket, Steam From Exhaust

Hello. I recently put a head gasket on a friend's 1930 Model A Pick Up. This was my first experience with a Model A. Part of the blown head gasket got hung up under 1 of the valves. I couldn't see any damage to the valve or block. We took the head to the machine shop to make sure it was flat. They removed .019 to make it flat. I drained the radiator and oil. After cleaning the top of the engine for the new gasket I blew it off with an air hose. On the valves that were open, some antifreeze came out. Is this normal? When I finally got the truck started, some oily looking antifreeze blew out of the exhaust. Now the truck is blowing steam (white smoke) out of the exhaust. Will this eventually go away? The truck seems to idle and rev fine. Just has the steam (white smoke) issue from the exhaust. Drips from the exhaust a little also.

Well I doubt the "white smoke" is going to go away. It usually indicates at least a bad head gasket. Maybe the block has a crack in it. What kind of head gasket did you use and how did you install it? Did you replace the studs or just use the old ones? How many lbs. did you torque the new gasket to? Is the head a standard Model A head or a high compression head? The gaskets for each are different.

disconnect the frt pipe from the manifold and see if it still steams eliminating water in muffler. otherwise your in trouble
