New guy with a '49

Hi Everybody,
Picked up my first flathead on Friday, been actively reading old posts and learning everything I can here since!
After deciphering the VIN and the production alphanumeric code on the firewall, it seems that today is the ol' girls birthday, production date 8/15/1949.
You all seem very knowledgeable and helpful, looking forward to this adventure.
Joe

:oJoe, Im jealous, Where did you find a truck that straight? I thought i got a nice F-1 but yours is nicer! Ken

Joe, looks like you are off to a good start with that one. How does it run and drive? Welcome to the Ford Barn!!

Joe,

Welcome to the Barn! What a great looking pickup. My first one was a '50, but certainly not as nice as yours!

Ken

Your truck is truely very unsightly and will only cause you nothing but grief and embarrassment on this site. I suggest you save yourself the grief and have the truck delivered to me in San Diego ASAP.

Wow, if my F1 was that nice to start with, I might be done by now, lol (inside joke)

Great find!

Hello Everybody,
Thanks for the warm welcome!
It is a good find but if I showed you some more pictures your positive feedback may change. I was really impressed that it is basically in stock condition which was high on my list. At first I felt I paid too much (thinking what they sold for 20 years ago), now I feel really happy about it.
Immediately it will need a complete wiring harness, front floor pan, drivers window, and interior.
Cosmetically it is good, but flaws are quite obvious with closer inspection. The paint is thin in areas, and missing in others (apparently the painter did not go out of his way to get the bottom of the lower panels & wheel arches)
The bed was replaced with a 1/8" sheet of steel plate. That is going to make a nice benchtop in my garage someday!
Anyway, more updates to follow I'm sure. If you are interested I'll share the good, the bad, and the ugly as things proceed!
Take care, and hope to see what you all are working on (and enjoying) also,
-Joe

Metal bed floors were stock from '48-mid 50. :) Still possible someone may have overlayed another piece though.
