New Guy intro & 1939 Ford 1/2 ton pickup Frame bracket question

Hi everyone. I am new to the site and starting to resurrect my 1939 pickup. I have restored multiple antique motorcycles, but this is my first automobile, so I have alot of learning to do.

I am going to keep the pickup as original as possible. I just like to save the history in the old stuff and don't plan on driving accross country...just around town. I am starting with the chassis and working my way up.
I bought the truck somewhat disassembled. The seller had planned to street rod it, but most everything is there.

The frame is pretty good but I would like to get a pair of the reinforcement brackets that are installed between the Xmember and the outer rails. Mine are pretty rough and have some corners broken off. These are the brackets that are about 18 inches long and about 6 inches tall with 4-3or 4 inch holes in it that the exhaust system runs through.

Does anyone know where I can buy a pair of these or does anyone have any that they have removed for a streetrod that they would like to sell?

Thanks

Thank you for the reply.....

How about manuals/books? What would be the best ones out there for a '39 1/2 ton?

I don't think that there is much out there on just the 1/2 T pickups. At least there wasn't when I built mine. The 1/2 T pickups are actually a "commercial car" and the running gear is basically the same as the cars so just get a good car book and ask any questions here. Lots of pickup guys here.

Books you say...I've found the Vern Tardell "let me help you" series a good reference. Booklets 1-4, steering, transmission, brakes and ignition.

The Lincoln press "Blue" and "Green" books and of course Mac Van Pelts "In's and Out's early ford transmission.

I have a pretty good photo collection of my 39 before and as I tore it down for restoration if you need some "the way it was" pictures. There are several good 38/39 folks here and happy to help

Now....speaking of help:rolleyes: I'm interested in a picture of your cowl vent assembly and handle assembly. Thanks, Scott

Welcome to the Barrel Nose club, Keith. You're gonna have a blast.

Great gang here - from all over the world.

And let me be the first to say..."PICTURES, PICTURES - WE LIVE FOR PICTURES!!!"

Keith,

There are series of small 6"x9" books about 40-60 pages each that cover repair info on these vehicles that are not year specific. Originals appear on e*** frequently and they are available from the major suppliers in repro form.

Here's a list of the Repair Manuals (not guaranteed complete, Form number refers to part number):

Ford, Mercury and Truck V8 Engines, 1937-1947, Form 3666-47G
Transmissions, Clutches, Overdrives, and Power Take-offs, 1932-1947, Form 3697-47
Ford Truck Rear Axles, 1939-1946, Form 3665
Generating and Starting Systems, 1933-1947, Form 3672-47F
Fuel Systems, 1938-1947, Form 3673-47

Ford of Canada made these as well with different form numbers. Canada also listed a book on Ignition Systems and one on Front Axles, Steering Gear and Chassis but I've never seen either on e*** or in repro form. I'd be curious if anyone out there has one.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks for all of the replies. Lots of good info. This forum seems to be filled with folks willing to share their knowledge. I will definitely look into all these books/manuals.
Already purchased a Green Bible, waiting for it to arrive.
