new exhaust manifold question

Just received my new exhaust mainfold from Synders today. Bought a original one last week and it looked good but found a hairline crack so i figured a new one would be stronger. I have an original intake. I know they should be decked to make sure they are lever and true. My question is from the front of the manifold number 1 cylinder it looks close with the intake but the farther back the worse it is maybe 1/8" needs to come off of the exhaust manifold. Is that to much to take off or is that ok. Might end up losing the channel the gland ring would sit in. Figured I'd get some input before I would contact Snyders guys and ask them if need be. Thanks

Maybe the intake is bad? Sounds like it has been "over-surfaced" in its past. I have never known the new exhaust manifold needing resurfacing and we have installed a bunch of them

What I did was make new thick washers that go under the nuts holding the manifolds on,then filled a step in them to fit the different heights on the clamping lugs on the manifolds,so far 8000klms no problem.Lawrie

Timely question as I'm contemplating purchasing a new exhaust manifold.

If the used intake manifold has been surfaced at all, would they not have to take some off the new exhaust to match?

They are milled bolted together, no?

Yes I bolted them together to see what it looked like. The back part of both manifolds line up good where the nuts and washers go. That looks ok and don't see a problem there. It's the surface against the block. The ears on the new manifold measure about 3/4" think and the intake 1/16-1/8 less. Maybe the intake was surfaced at one time don't know. I could try and find another intake but I'm sure most have been resurfaced. Don't want to end up with 10 intake manifolds. I'm just wondering if 1/8 off the new manifold is ok and won't weaken anything mainly I guess the ears on it. Being new it maybe is stronger.

Something else you need to consider is that if you are planning on using gland rings, you'll need to have that exhaust manifold machined if you remove 1/8".

Personally, I'd find a better intake manifold.

I purchased a new intake and exhaust. Bolted together perfect and level. Even the gland rings went in easy would do it again the same way
