i used the timing pin for tdc...i'll borrow a dial indicator tomorrow and verify it. I just can't see that being the problem, as i've swept the spark lever over the entire range at idle and my full retard runs best. During timing setup i had over adjusted to 10 atdc, so if the crank dimple is off location, i should have still been in the sweet spot of ideal low idle timing before i finally got it set correctly.
i was told by a friend that i have hydraulic lifters(his observation of the engine running quiet). when i did a compression check the engine was stone cold and had rested overnight, so i'm certain that the lifters had bled off, as i had roughly 50 psi on each cylinder...i'll try and do it on a warm engine and get a real reading, although i was glad to see consistent numbers...what numbers should i be looking for on a rebuilt engine with 3700 miles?
Plugs are w16y, fresh out of the box and .035", now that i have the idle low enough i'll try to identify if any cylinder is misfiring again, although with the see-through disti cap you can clearly see the spark on all 4, so if any trouble with spark it would have to be between the distributor body, (which is brand new) and the plugs (which are new also)
i'm still thinking carb issue, although it's weird that only one cylinder would cut out?
Being new to my local club, i'm kind of running at this alone other than help from you guys, i'll probe around a bit and see if anyone can lead me to a spare carb for further testing.
As always, thanks for the advice
