new and a coupe

Hi all,
just picked up a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe coupe from the states (i'm in australia) - and after a long three month wait, it now sits in my driveway - very happy!
It is dead stock original (well, mostly) and still 6 volt etc. So, after spending the afternoon looking over it up close, there are a few things that need doing. In particular, the oil drain plug (sump plug) is pretty shot (rounded) and wondered where I might get another one from? I tried ecklers/macs - but that doesn't seem to be quite big enough - the one in mine is really large. Wondering if anyone could advise please?

Welcome to Ford Barn. Your 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan Coupe looks great. I am glad that it arrived intact, hearing about all the problems of importing cars to Australia because they contain asbestos in the Brakes, Clutch Plate and Gaskets.

One of my favorite body styles! Love the accessories. What part of America did it come from? Also am I noticing a "Pullman" diner in the background? Bill

I would love to come over and help you with it. Hope you have Manny miles of happiness driving the little Ford. Looks very nice. Love seeing pictures of over there. God Speed

Welcome to the Barn, hepcat! I'm a little partial to your '47. I needed a new pan drain plug, too. It's 1.5 inches wide and the thread count is 20 per inch, I think. (At least, that's what mine is.) Try Mac Vanpelt here in the U.S. to see if he may still have some in his inventory. He's also a great guy to know for much of the things we need, and a wonderful guy to deal with.

Keep us posted on your progress........your adventure is just beginning!!!

Regards......Dick.

What a beauty! Love the post war Fords, are there additio trim caps between the hub cap and trim ring? Or is the wheel center a different color?

Hepkat63. Welcome to the Barn. that is one nice clubby you have there. Yes that sure is a big nut, as 19Fordy says welding another nut to it would be a solution if you cant find another. A large pair of "nut fu*kers" (slip wrench/pliers) should be able to get on the rounded off nut and give you enough leverage to get it undone.
