NEW 8ba FOR SALE

Hi fellows, I have a new 8BA that has been rebuilt and never run, I don't know interior details as I got it along with my '50F1 about 10 years ago. have never used it so thinking about selling it. It has heads installed but no manifold. Would like some idea of what to ask for it. It has been painted lite green, I think that was a mercury color around 51 but I'm really guessing.

Without knowing the interior details it's really hard to say what it's worth. However, if you really want to sell it be prepared to allow the potential buyer to remove the heads and the intake to see what's inside. It would be to your advantage to mount it on an engine stand with the heads, oil pan and intake removed.

What would the bearings be like after 10yrs? Does acid in the oil corrode them to any degree? Do rings loose any tension.

Understand, think I'll pull a head and see what the size is and front cover to see what cam is. I know the pistons are new and bore fresh. If all is OK still wondering about pricing it. Comment on brgs is questionable as it was most likely assembled with break in oil. It was a pro job.

it sounds like the rebuild was done by the guy you bought everything from.....does it have any of the receipts for the rebuild?

$2000 sounds like its fair to me also, I can pull a head to verify everything.
No I have no receipts but its all checkable, when I bought truck I made him throw the engine in for insurance but have never needed it.
I guess I'll sell for 2K.

I am just finishing an 8ba rebuild. Bored .040 and everything new. $2,200 for parts and machining. Labor would be another $1,000 by a good shop so $2,000 is a bargain if it was done right. If yours was rebuilt 10 years ago parts were a lot cheaper back then and NOS plentiful. You can rebuild several SBC's now for the cost of parts for a flathead. John
