New to me anyway, I am new also to the ford barn. I just bought the Vicky in USA and I am getting it shipped home to NZ. I intend to drive this car so need to make sure that I have plenty of spare parts. i thought front steering parts, brake parts, bearings and seals, carb and ignition parts.. whew!!... quite a list.

My question is where is the best place to start looking for the these parts?

Thanks

There seems to be a large group of hobbyists down under. Have you talked with any of them on how they source parts for classic US cars?

I would hate to think of buying a large group of parts ($$$) before being able to go through it and finding what it actually needs,

Ford Y blocks were native to Australia. Some of the parts we yanks use are imported from there. Look there first.

I’d put this back up with a title like “need help from down under, or AU NZ” or however you blokes down there would word it. You need responses from the guys in the know for your part of the world.

All I know about NZ is Ace Customs are great guys to deal with. Been there, done that, but not what you’re looking for.

Australian 1954 Ford V8 Customlines retained the Flathead V8 as illustrated in the original Sales Brochure. They also retained the shorter 1952/1953 118" Wheelbase unlike the USA Fords that got the OHV Y Block Engine, Ball Joint Front Suspension and Wheelbase extended by half an inch.

Hi thank you all for your response, the car is with the person that I purchased it from, he is going to put all spare parts for the car in the trunk.

I would like to add to those parts while it is in th US to save shipping later on.

The rear end is going to need all new seals, that I know. The car has done 66,000 miles or maybe 166,000. The inner tie rods are original and the steering idler appears not to have been replaced either, I would like new of those as well as perhaps the outer tie rod ends and the front ball joints. It looks like it is going to need a carb rebuild kit and maybe fuel pump kit as well.

I would like to buy these parts in the USA and have them delivered to the car so that they can be included with the parts that are already coming with the car.
Any help as to where you guys order you parts from within the US would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

mercman thak you for posting the copy of the brochure, I will study thst for sure. I remember seeing a few 54 Customlines around in my younger days and yes ours had flatheads as well. New cars were not easy to buy in NZ in those days and any we had were driven to death in most cases.

mercman, woww!! nice brochure photo, that is why I have purchased a 54, I love the clean simple lines of the car.

The car that I have purchased is raven black all over. Everything about the car is all correct as per the body tag but I am now very tempted by the cream top on that car.
In the summer all black will really soak up the heat. The windows will have to be down all the time.

Thanks for the photo

mercman that is the exact car that I have purchased, it has had a bit of work done to it since that photo, rechromed rear bumper plus lots of detail and finishing work included.
It comes with lots of paper work and history.

My response may have been worded poorly. I want the Kiwi to know some parts may be available in Oz, if that saves him time and money. I had a 54 Vicky like the black and white one for many years. I loved that car.

With mileage that low you may not need a ball joint replacement, these ball joints were so strong they were also used in Checker Taxi cabs that ran up to 300K + miles, just keep them lubed.

Daytona carburetor for a rebuild kit for your Carb. they seem to have the best. Maybe Kanter Auto parts for your front suspension/steering components.

Great looking Ford from the 50's, & one of my favorites! I've always liked the cream colored tops w/a darker color on the bottom.

The USA made '54's had a 235 Y-block 8-cyl engine and it was the first year for a new car frame which was used in '55 & 56.
You can still get engine gasket sets for the 235 from many of the popular repro parts suppliers here, but I don't think much else is offered other than distributor & carburator rebuilding services.
Some cosmetic repair parts can also be found in many repro parts suppliers catalogs like Concours or Ecklers (Mac's). Rubber replacement parts can be found in same catalogs as well as Dennis Carpenter or Metro Moulded parts.
If you run across any local '54's down there (made in Australia), they have the old '49-53 frame and suspension as well as an old flathead V8 rather than a Y-block.
The 235 car Y-block is an odd ball. You can sooner rebuild a flathead than a 235, but most of the big repro guys I mentioned and several others can supply you with new starters, generators, voltage regulators and some dash electrical switches as well as light bulbs. Your 235 has a Ford EBU carburator which can be rebuilt with a kit or send it Sal Cicala who is also a member of this forum.
I believe all your suspension parts, idler arm, tie rod ends, a-frame bushings, etc are a direct swap with '55/56 model parts.
