New 21" Goodyear Tire

Anyone have experience with the new 21” Goodyear tire? Am primarily concerned with its fit in an original fender well. Have read that some tires have to be deflated to fit in the well – thus, defeating the purpose of a ‘spare’.

Not sure how much they pertain to the original question bet definitely funny answers above!!

To answer your question Charles, they fit fine providing the well is the same dimensions as original, --or the repro well has been installed correctly. I have about 5 or 6 sets of the Goodyear 21's out there now and the wear characteristics seem to be very decent. It is also a very pretty tire.

my question pertains to if the new repo tire will fit 'IN' my original driver side fender well (not the bottom of the well rubbing on the driver front tire). i do not have the new tires yet but am considering ordering them. thanks for the responses.

Charles,

I know you've been striving to do the most accurate restoration you can on your Roadster Pickup. The new 21" Goodyear's are the very best and most accurate 21" tire available at any price. As Brent indicated, they will fit your original welled fender. Go for it. You'll be happier with them than any other tire, in my opinion.

Hi Dave and everyone,
Right on Dave,
I saw them at French Lick and I have a set of Firestones for sale 21" if anyone wants them.
I will buy a set of the Goodyears 21" because they look great and they are finally the correct size and design. :D
I tried to see them at Lucas at Hershey but none in stock!
I hope everyone supports good reproduction stuff when it becomes avaialable or it will go away! Even if it costs a little more.
Look what happened to the '31 running boards from Rootlieb. I would love to see a group get together and see if we can buy enough to have another production run? A few guys in Chicago would buy 10 sets right now if they became avilable again???? How about you???

If you are working on the rear fenders then not only is the end in sight but it is also within reach!! :) Good luck in finishing your project. I have Goodyears on my coupe and I love the look of the diamond tread pattern.

When I did my truck I spent so many hours in "bed" they started to make jokes about it, well I can't go much further but you can imagine what you get out of a bunch of garage guys....... oh that's right, you are a bunch of garage guys Ha-Ha!:D:D:D
Keep going Chuck the end is near
Time to put some "tars" on it!
Ken:)

I saw them when they were introduced. A friend immediately ordered a set an put them on his woody. They fit the wheel well perfect.

Not sure about 21's but the 19" GoodYears will not fit in my wells.

I have dual fender wells in my '30 Sport Coupe and have fully inflated 19" Good Years that can be put into and taken out of the wells without problems.

Maybe your Good Years aren't to big, but your fender wells to small.

Ken, I spoke with Tom Rootlieb at length at Hershey and one of the topics was about these boards. While the "majic number" was 100 sets of boards to make a run, I too would probably step up for 3 or 4 pair myself. The biggest thing that Tom did not want to do is "inventory" $20k worth of boards over the next 4 - 5 years waiting for them to sell. I am thinking if we had between 40-50 confirmed orders, he would make another run. It would probably be the last run ever made but for those who wanted them, it would be worth 'stepping up' for.

Interesting. My 19 inch Goodyear fits in my fender well nicely.

I understand Firestones don't fit well.

I Know this is in reference to the 28-29 fenderwells which I haven't had a lot of experience with as I have the 30-31 style. On the 30-31, remove the cotter key from the main arm back of the cross member. loosen the castle nut so you can move the main arm, also loosen the plate nut on the arm. After this is done, drop the tire in the well, adjust both the arm and the plate to fit, tighten the nuts. I have had Goodyears, Firestones and now 16" Goodyears on my cars and they all fit. The only difference is with the 16" I have to defate it by a few pounds because of the width. This way the arm and the position of the tire and wheel will look right where where it should be
