Need Water Pump advise

My club members have been telling me to get rid of my Steel 2 blade fan, and while I am changing the blade and have the pump off rebuild mine or replace with a complete leakless one. Mt question is what do I have now ? I removed the front a rear grease fittings to find they are just plugs (no hole in fitting and the rear solid brass. I have no leaks at all and no noise. I have had the car for about 2 years and have been wondering witch pump I now have ? I check the fan blades and have not seen cracks or other problems.
Now that I have the fittings out do I lube front and rear or rear only or just close her up ? If I should lube, can I use a light duty lithium based grease, its a honey color and says chassis, springs, water pumps and bearings. Thanks A-Jay

The fan is okay as long as it is closely inspected for cracking. If the pump isn't leaking don't "fix" it unless the shaft is loose and can wobble. From what you say about the grease fittings it sounds like a "leakless" pump with no lubrication required.

The steel fan may not have any visible cracks now, but chances are it will in the future. I would replace the fan with a cast aluminum one. It's easy now and a whole lot less expensive than replacing the water pump, hood, and/or radiator when a fan blade does let go.

A nail in the wall of your shop is a much safer place for an original steel fan.

My 2 cents.

Looks like a case of "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is."

Put a magnet on the blade to make sure you have a steel one. If it is, and you aren't going for show, put an aluminum one on. They're cheap and well made now. Your pump sounds like it's good as is.

Absolutely correct! A steel original fan can be inspected before a trip and develop a crack and fly apart in an instant. I used to be one of the naysayers Till I had one fly apart on a short trip to town. I always gave my fan a once over when I check the oil and water before every early spring trip.
