Need info about 1931 Closed Cab Pickups

Hey all,

I have found what could be a real good deal on a closed cab 31. My feince really likes the trucks and this seems like it could be a winner. I was wondering if I could get some insight of what to look for and what are the common problems and troubled areas on these trucks? Also how is the leg room in these? I have driven a 31 fordor and the clutch pedal was a little to close and uncomfortable for my liking. I know lat 31's have the indented fire wall where you have to lift the hood to turn on and off the gas. Is there anything else I should look for that tells me how early or late the truck is? And if you own one how do you like it?

Thanks again!

The little Red pickup I posted today looking for photo's of fire trucks is a 31, like all pickup's the leg room is limited, installing a narrow back seat spring will give you more leg room, solid roof and indented fire wall with fuel shut off in the indention, carburetor will fuel filter on carburetor, grill shell with bat wing painted. No problems with the A trucks, same as a car, Bruce

if you didnt have enough room in a 4 door you will def not like the truck
but i would look at how well the brakes work
engine noise

I know I will get use to it and theres ways to adjust my position and posture. I am used to driving my chevelle that has a lot more leg room then the A's seem to have.

Mechanicals are easier and usually cheaper to repair than body work, unless you are a body and fender man. With pickups, look along the lower back of the cab and the back cab corners for rustout or bad repairs. Also of course the lower cowl sections and bottoms of the doors. Inspect the bed for rustout in the corner post holes, especially the bottom curved areas. Make sure the windshield opens and closes properly; because of hard use truck bodies are sometimes wracked and things don't line up properly. (A steel roof helps some on this.)
