need help with AA fire truck 31

Dave, the grill shell on your vehicle does not look like any Model A I have ever seen. That shell looks more like a '32 commercial. What are the numbers that are stamped on the block?

That is the correct shell for mid 30 thru 31 AA. It looks like it may have been chrome
plated although there was a stainless AA shell.

If I remember right, ambulances, fire trucks/engines, and special deliveries got the stainless "fancy" shell - everything else AA wise just got black painted steel.

I'm sure the stainless one could have been ordered at additional cost.

If I am not mistaken Ford did not build "custom" vehicles such as fire vehicles and ambulances. They would supply the chassis and companies would build the vehicle. In the case of fire vehicles there was to much custom work specified by customers to be profitable for Ford. Unless a city purchases several fire vehicles at one time, almost no two firefighting vehicles are the same. As for the chrome grill, perhaps the city or town that purchased the vehicle "splurged" for the extra money for the grill or Darley enticed the city by including the chrome at no extra cost. Hopefully Darley has kept records from the '30s and can give Dave some answers.
