New to this and need help identifying the original color(s) of the heater in my 1950 F-1. Wonder if this is the Firestone aftermarket heater referred to in some threads? Thanks.

Welcome to to the Barn Bud. Alot of F-1 guys on here to help.I have the same heater which is Firestone. Mine is original which is all black with the silver cover.Others will chime in. Good luck Ken

I have two of those heaters. One I stripped down to find original colors to see if they matched my other one. Both are a dark gray (metalic?-did they make metalic back then?) with gold "f" and gold emblem strip to the left of the "f"......
so from my two heaters, one from Alaska and one from N.Carolina...

Dark gray (mettalic) with gold emblems..

Remove the Rectangular emblem and you"ll probably see the original color underneath...Don't remove the "f" , its hard to reattach.

I have a 1949 F1 stock

I learning something...I did not know it was called a Firestone Heater...aftermarket?...if the "f" for firestone or Ford?:)

Here's mine. It was pretty rusty when I got it but I was able to find an original color remnant and matched it to the best of my ability as a PPG Auto Paint Jobber. The F is gold, the gray is what I would describe as dark charcoal metallic. I might still have the PPG paint number. I have always assumed it was a Ford option recirculating heater. Some had fresh air heaters. As I recall the hose outlets matched the knockout plugs in the firewall. My truck is a July 1949 F-1 6 cylinder. Heater works great. The styled "F" resembles that of the 51 Ford hubcaps.

This is the fresh air optional heater for the 48-50 trucks. The 51-52 were different in shape, but operated the same way. As for color, you can use "Ford Argent" paint which Ford used in the 70's thru mid 90's for a match. Any Ford dealer can order a can and get it next day. I took my heater apart and it's a dead ringer for a match.
THere have been a few threads on here lately about your style heater. Do a little research in the archives. That heater is not correct for your truck if you're doing a proper restoration. But, back when these trucks were new, few came with a heater installed from the factory. Most were dealer installed ( profit maker ) or customers went to Sears, Montgomery Ward, Firestone, etc.. to buy a heater because they were much cheaper. These were work trucks and people didn't spend alot on thier trucks.

Dick, i believe you are correct on the color as opposed to mine which is an argent silver. Barry, you know how hard it is to find all the correct pieces for the early Ford script heater? Very nice. Im going with the Firestone in my 48.Got all that Bud?

so it sounds like the colors have been established as charcoal metallic with gold emblems and age appropriate for the 48-50 fords. From the responses above, the question now is if this heater with the funny "f" is a firestone or ford original recirculating heater. Alot of 48-50 ford F1's seem to have this model.

Ken- I wasn't questioning your choice nor putting you down for it. I was saying that from what I've read here, that it was not a genuine accessory. That's all. It doesn't look like the oines in the shop manual or parts catalog to me. Don't get so defensive with your last remark. Nasty doesn't work. We're here to share info, and LEARN from it.

Barry,Wasn't trying to be defensive, Just prasin all the hard work tryin to find these parts. Don't have a mean bone in my body. Ken
