I know the 1931 model a did not have radio's but i hid one in the car. I have a 12 volt system and ran separate fused power and ground from the battery.
the radio frame is grounded.

with the antenna plug in and just lying on the floor the radio plays ok with the car off. but when i start the car (oh boy) stations go in and out like turning the radio on and off.

do i have to ground the antenna. Or is it because of the points and bare copper plug wires.

is their a fix or should i just forget about it.

thanks Jim Brennan

AM or FM radio?

FM should work OK. AM will prolly have a ton of static
Antenna should be grounded, why not try a jumper to ground as a test

Try installing a good noise supressor in line of the power feed along with grounding the antenna
Some guys also add supressor style wires if you don't mind the look

I would start by mounting the antenna to the rear bumper.
Next try using a carbon coil wire.
If you still have static, you may have to use carbon plug wires and an inline power feed wire filter to power the radio. Or, as Tbird said, just listen to FM.
