need help starting flattie

All the advice on electrical above is very good. You have a very valuable car being as original as it is. Here is a list of things that would normally be done with a car like you have.
1. new 6v bat, positive ground.
2. rebuild fuel pump with current diaphram which would be alchol resistant. Old diaphrams were layered cloth and would have cracked at best after setting as long as your car has been.
3. install a new accelarator pump in the carb. They are leather and get hard and non functional after setting.
4. shine a flashlight in the gas tank, this can be done on a 34 car, see if there is gas turned to tar in the tank. If so, pull the tank and have it cleaned with acid and lined. Old gas tar will screw everything up all the way to the valves and cause them to stick also.
5. remove hot wire on coil and check out ign circuit with switch on, you should have power from the bat thru the switch, tru the resistor and on to the coil.
6. if it is a 33-48 engine and has a dist on the front center of the engine, these are dual point dist. If you remove it, be very careful when re installing it to fit it completely in before putting the bolts in, there is a off set tang that drives it and it it is not correctly in, you will burst the dist when tighting the bolts.
7. it would be a good thing if there is no coolant in the system to wait a day or so after adding coolant to make sure there are no internal leaks.
8. I would recommend you purchase a set of 32-7 Ford Service Bulletins and a repop owners manual, both available from all the EV8 peddlers such as MAC's, Sacremanto Vintage Ford, Joblot and others.

Have fun

man that guy was lucky if that eng poped back which can happen espacely with a car siting 30 years. he could have been varey badley burned. people think & be carefull.never pour fuel in an eng whith out the air cleaner on.

i think he means put the air cleaner back on after pouring fuel into the carb

I think if you watch the video he was refering to, that would not have worked under those particular circumstances of trying to keep the engine running until the gas got pumped up from the gas tank. Certainly was some risk in the way it was done, but, a calculated risk for what such is worth. At least I had my eyes protected.

There is a safer way that might have worked that I didn't know about at the time but have learned since. Instead of dribbling gasoline into the carburetor, use a small propane burner apparatus that you screw the propane bottle onto. Don't light the burner, of course, but turn it on and direct the gas into the carburetor. I've seen that work and would be safer.
