I purchased a "new" old stock mechanical fuel pump for my 8BA. Because of it's age I purchased a rebuild kit and started to do the rebuild.
I removed the glass bowl, replaced the cork and added the screen. Everything looks good.
I then proceeded to take the main pump apart. The rubber membrane sandwiched between the top and bottom was really stuck to both sides leading me to believe that they used some type of "sealer" on the membrane before tightening down... My first question is should I put a sealer on this before putting it back together? If so, what should I use?
I then replaced the plunger membrane, spring and lever/linkage... again pretty straight forward.
I then replaced the two valves and the gasket in the top part again pretty straight forward... until I realized I have a spring that came with the rebuild kit, it is about 1/4" x 1.5" spring and I did not see a spring like this when taking the pump apart and I have no idea where it goes. Can anybody please tell me what it is for and where it goes?
I am a newbie and I would sure appreciate help.
Thank you in advance.
