I have just started a rebuilt v8 with rebuilt dist, detroit lubricator carb, and early style intake manifold. Engine starts fine but runs rough at idle and the exhaust note sounds like passing gas,(farting) not a true backfire but an odd poping sound. Before I pull things apart I'm looking for possible problems.
1 could a leaking intake manifold be the cause and if so how to test for it?
2 could a couple spark wires be switched?
3) could it be the timing? I had the dist re-done by Bubba's shop so I'm quite sure it's right but I don't know how to check it on the car>
I had the carb run on another 32 and it worked fine.
And help would be appreciated.
