Thank you all for the replies. I decided to press in a short length of pipe in the shutoff that I have now. I called Berts and ordered another shutoff today. The one I have now opens and closes pretty hard so I just figured that I should get a new one. The problem will be the mess I make pulling out the old shutoff to install the new one since all the fuel won't be able to drain. But I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
I used evaporust. I'm not sure if it was the right move I just thought I'd try it. It's not completely clean, I'll worry about that when I start to restore the car. I couldn't drive the car 50 foot without the fuel line plugging with rust.
Not really mixed results. It did what I expected it to do. I have a thread on here about rust in my fuel tank. Some people told me not to mess with the evaporust and that I should just fix the problem right by sending it off and having it cleaned. Like I said, I will do that eventually but as of right now I just want to get the car running good and enjoy it before the weather turns bad. Also I'm not planning on doing any bodywork right now so I don't want all the paint stripped from the fuel tank.
