Need block whisperer!

Gentlemen,

I submit, for your consideration, the top of the block in my 35 Tudor Deluxe! After months of trying to get it running, I opted for doing it right, and have began pulling it down. It really is nasty in there, however, I am curious as to what these stamped letters may mean. Alledgedly, this is the original motor in this car. Is it babbit, or is it insert? The vin says it was built in March. Don't know if that makes it an early car, or a late car. The first pic is on the passenger side, back by the firewall. The second, about halfway towards the radiator. I welcome all comments, and opinions.

Thanks much!

Have to drop the pan to determine if it is babbit. Numbers are meaningless today. March build would be around mid model year.

Insert mains came out in November 35. If yours is a March build, it will have babbit bearings. Does your block have flat top pistons, or domed pistons?

Lawson,

Pistons are flat top. I, like many others, have heard all the different versions of when the insert motors began. Some say mid 35, others say late 35, and still others tell me that no 35 has insert engines. I am hoping there might be one in my car, only because I also have a 27 T, and babbit can sometimes be an expensive pain. I'll deal with whatever it is, just curious about the stamps.
Thanks for your help!!

1936 is generally believed to be the first model to have inserts ,but Ford started making the 36 style engine in Nov 35 so some of these engines went into the last of the 35s .
i think the first insert bearing engines went into the '36s??....Mike

I'm building a 35 engine right now for a customer. New babbitt mains, .080 pistons flattops, nice set of aluminum stock heads and intake. It's almost done. Will try to post some pic when I get it on my running stand. I haven'nt posted pic for a long while, I'll have to learn again. Walt

Walt, and your doing a good job,is the crank & rods balanced, how about the flywheel & the pressure plate, those are probably balanced also, this engine should run real smooth.Ha Ha say hi to rocky.EPW
