Need advice T5 adapter to Flathead

I'm having my transmission guy look into changing my gear ratios to something in the 85-86 SVO range. Just don't feel like putting it in, than taking it out cause I'm unhappy, Cornhuskers made contact with me and glad they have the adapter plate I need. Waiting to hear from transmission guy before I buy the adapter kit. You guys have been very helpful, thank you.

So how 'bout a 1998 S10... Was that still a useable WC t5?

Ok, I don't know much about later model S10 transmissions! But, are you sure it is a T5? The 98 S10 with 4.3L comes with 5 speed transmission, but its called the New Venture Trans, NV2500 or NV3500. From what I can find, they used a T5 until 95 and then switched. What engine was in the 98 you are looking at?

I took a NWC s-10 ****** and swapped the gear set from a Z-28, into it. As long as you keep NWC and WC cases and gears together, you should be okay. There might be some issues with the plastic oil funnel on the end of the cluster gear. On mine, I had to shorten it slightly to fit the S-10 case.
You can also play around with the overdrive gears. The driver and driven are separate and you can change the ratios. If you find that 0.67 to 1 is too high, you can replace it with a 0.82 to 1 set. The input shaft gear/cluster gear ratio has a direct bearing on what you end up with as an OD ratio.

Thanks for the clarification Randy, I have only worked with WC T5s, but my understanding is that NWC and WC parts will not mix and that is what you are stating, correct?

You guys are amazing with the speed of resonse and breadth of knowledge on this site!

I'll skip the later trans, looks like I have a lead on a '92 vintage S10 gearbox.

Better! They should have a tag on them with the ID number. That is really the only way to confirm what you have.

If you do find one and have the tag number (it'll be 1352-xxx). I have a listing of the numbers and what the gear ratios are. Let me know what you find and I'll be happy to look it up for you.

you can look up this place in Org. Flatomatic bell houseing they also sell clutch and oressure plates throw out arm to match your needs also you might have too grind out the inside edge toclear the pressure plate give me a call if you have any trouble 9162966827 gary

Tag is roached, but appears to say 162 E...
Which would be an 87 Mustang?
I'll try to clean up the tag to verify the number.
At least the tailhousing is what I need for sure

That is not a mustang T5 or any other Ford T5. This is a mustang T5. It looks like a Chevy bolt pattern to me. Is it WC or NWC? Do you know how to tell?

Looks like an electric speedo, so very likely WC. You have to look at the front bearing cup of the cluster gear. You can't see it in that picture.

Upon closer inspection the tag is 192....1989 S10 with 2.8 v6
First gear is 3.97 and overdrive is .79
I'm running wide5 wheels with bias ply 6.00 x 16
Rear end ratio is ?? out of a 1938 coupe

Little hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a NWC to me. See what you think.

Edit: Just checked and that year would be a NWC, so sounds like you may have figured the Tag # out!

Is there a way for a dummy like me to determine the differences at a glance for a NWC and WC?
Thanks
Jim
