Originals are not painted, just flat black due to the material used. So a satin or flat black would be close to original. Be prepared to paint it about every two years, though, depending on how much you drive it. It will wear and chip off.

Don't paint it! I used soap and water and a light scrubbing with one of those green scrubby pads. Rinse. Towel dry and wait a day to be sure the wheel is really dry. Light application of black shoe polish - the real stuff in a can. Let dry. Buff with several changes of cotton rag. Beautiful. Nice finish under your hand. Does not chip or peel off.

Do you have cracks to fill in, or why does it need anything like paint? A guy in our club used a Plasticoat rust converter product to fill in his cracks and it came out perfect. I'll see if I can find the number. I'm not sure of the number, but it might be something like Plasticoat 726.

I painted mine with semi gloss black Rustoleum. I paint my 28s with Rustoleum red primer. Both look great and don't chip or rub off.
