Nails in header cover

What size nails are used in nailing the header cover on over the wood header on a 31 2-dr. sedan? Are they the same as the nails used for nailing the windshield visor? Isn't there a piece of welting used between the header wood and the header cover. Where is it placed at?
I have also noticed on some complete and running cars where the wood header is not completely covered at the top. Look under the sun-visor near the center of the car at the top where the metal header cover is. It's dark there and hard to see. I have seen on more than one occasion wood, a 2' or longer line, 3/16th high with exposed wood. How do you prevent this? Or could sealant of some kind be used there? Could some type of windshield sealant be used there. How do you make it completely cover the whole wooden header ?

I used body nails as available from Bratton's or Snyder's. There is a metal trim strip that goes over and hides the nails. That part is shown in the catalogs.

When you install a new wood header, the top of the wood may have to be trimmed so that (underneath) the metal visor fits the steel windshield cover leaving just enough room for the small "fender welt" material. The welt fills the gap between the two steel parts and should not require any sealant. When you are finished, you should be able to see the bead of the welting when you look up underneath the visor. Aerocraft are you saying, that the header is trimmed at the top taking just enough wood off that when the header cover is in place and the sun-visor is in it's proper position that the gap will be near nothing. If so, then is the welting positioned at a halfway point. Does that mean that half of the welting is under the top of the header cover and the other half rolled over the header wood towards the top side with the sun-visor laying on that half.
