NADA pricing accuracy? 41 pickup

How accurate is the NADA valuations as compared to the current private buying market ? I'm in the negotiation stage for a 1941 pickup. And need to find a baseline.
Any advice is welcome and needed...thanks

Is the 41 restored, a hot rod, basket case. Flat head powered, rust free? Need more info. I paid $8500 for mine in 2002 and it needed a lot.
 
Currently waiting on the inspector to look at the truck, and contact me. I am in Fl. the truck is in Ohio. I have not seen this truck in many years. So I'm not sure what I'm dealing with as of yet. This truck belonged to my uncle before his passing. At one time it was a nice running and driving truck with fresh paint. Flathead v8. Will post pics when they are sent.

I paid $3500 for mine ten years ago. It was in parts and the frame was ready for assembly. The sheet metal needed a lot of work but doable. No motor or ******. Rearend included. I street rodded it so many original parts were not used.
 
1GC is a 6 cylinder engine, so it has been changed to a V8, I have bought and sold three 40/41 pickups in the last two years. the 41's were 4 cylinder trucks, one semi restored-$18,500 one running fair body $10,500.00 and a 40 project truck from ca, hardly any rust but not running and partially disassembled $7,500. so maybe this gives you an idea
 
forgot to add, I know where a 2/3 done restoration, 40 truck can be bought for $30,000 and I know the restorer and it is worth the money. wish I had the cash/time to do it.
 
The most important part is the condition of the sheetmetal. Especially the bed and rear fenders. NADA is a "guide". Your best bet is to inspect it yourself unless you can trust the person who will look at it for you. That person should be experienced in looking at Ford V-8s, especially pickups.
 
I recently purchased a '41 P-U, full stock restoration (239 V8) for $25K.

'dawg......Whew, those pics show a lot of scary stuff. The type of wiring "expertise" shown in the under-dash shot indicates a rat's nest of electrical problems, if not a warning to have the local fire department number on speed-dial! The "ad-on" open-drive rear end "hack-job" leaves an awful lot to be desired. You'd have to ask "WHY" he replaced the original rear in the first place. The torched rear spring ends certainly indicates the level of understanding that the builder has about "safe practices". The half-assed radius rods are trash, along with the awful geometry designed into his "installation". The front spring is almost flat, and surely worn-out, as the rest of the front axle parts likely are, too. UNDERNEATH that truck is a total waste. From 50 feet, the sheet metal appears to be pretty close to a '41 pick-up, but have you run a magnet across all of that "pretty, painted" sheet metal? You may be in for some surprises. Snazzy paint jobs can cover many sins. And that fancy seat installation.......Heaven help ya if you ever crash into something solid....that seat is POORLY mounted! I would pass on THAT truck for any kind of serious money, and especially if you don't intend to tear it apart and rebuilt EVERYTHING from scratch. Seriously, you've gotta wonder WHY the guy has that truck for sale in the first place. He was obviously way over his head as a builder. DD

Hard to say. There are some areas of that truck that are decidedly substandard. Front spring bushes. Rear axle installation. Seat installation. Wiring. Condition of tyres. (flat).

The paint looks ok, but what is it covering?

It depends how much they want for it.

I'm guessing it's not cheap because superficially it looks very nice.

An experienced builder could turn it around. An experienced builder with a stockpile of parts like the correct rear axle and spring, and doubtless countless other parts.

But for an inexperienced builder it would turn into a nightmare very quickly.

Mart.........You were much kinder than I was..........but said essentially the same thing. Nevertheless, I'd be very reluctant to get involved with that truck.

By the way Mart, you and I seem to have exactly the same number of posts! DD
