Flathead Fever

I just ran across these photos in my computer.
Maybe a year ago, I went to buy the reversed '50 Merc rims off of a '40 Ford Coupe a guy inherited from his uncle that had owned it since the 1950s. Take a look at these gauges. I've never seen anything like them. I don't know what language they are, maybe Japanese? I begged the guy to leave the car just the way it was but it's getting updated. One WWII vet told me if you were above a certain rank the government would ship your car back to the States for free. He wasn't and had to sell his hot rod '32 roadster in Hawaii in 1950. Maybe that's how it got here.
He advertised the wheels and I had to make an offer, which he accepted. Then I waited a year until he was ready to take them off. I had given up by the time he called. My offer got the rims, and another guy got the entire drivetrain which had a tired a 59A flathead. I don't need any more flatheads, but I would have liked to have had the '40 rear end for a '32 project.
