So afew weeks ago i posted a thread about my car not likeing sitting for more than two days. Well it happened again last tusday my maniflod started leaking at the exaust pipe clamp, so i dident drive her all week and weekend. So i fix the exaust leak and all is good right? No of corece not i go for a spin with a buddy who haddent drivin in it, all ran good. When i get back to the gradge my other buddy wants a spin so what do i do naturly i give him one. Well were crusing around the block and he asks if i can take him to McDonalds so i say shure its about five miles away. We get about 100 yards of mcdonalds and it dies. I let her coast into the bobs parking lot next door. I check the gass cap it was on relay tight so i asume i had an air lock i try starting it till i killed the battery. I had fule had good air flow and it was running perfect a minuit ago. Well this guy pulls in with his F350 with a 1000lb pumpkin in the bed?? ( he was going to topsfiled Fair tomorow.) told me he saw me driving and had to turn around and follow and check out the truck when i stoped. People seem to do that alot. he trys giving me a jump but the car would't take it just sparked and caused everything to heat up. i have a short some were i guess and im thinking its my ignition becouse i lost the key to it when i was restoreing it and just pulled one out of an old case tractor i have out back. I think one of the lose prongs may have swivaled and hit something.
Ended up calling AAA and getting a tow. I dont get it why is every time i let her sit for any amount of time something goes wrong; and when i drive her every day all day every were i (never ever) have a problem? is it goasts is she pissie and have a mind of her own? I dont get it.

3 things you need for an engine to start

1 Suck
2 Bang
3 Blow

Needs to suck air and fule in
needs to ingitht the atomized fule with correct timeing (bang)
and it needs to blow exaust out. Ha Ha

Sounds like you got the same problem as I have. Mine runs great when I take it out but everytime I take the wife out she acts up. (The Model A not the wife.) My wife only acts up when we get home. My Model A only wants my attention! I've started to put things in the car that maybe would give it a sent or two of my wife. Maybe my Model A will get used to her sent, or something and stop acting up. Good luck, and if you find the fix....? Please let me know.

I Gues my only fix is to make shure i take her every day and every were i go NH, Fl work every day. that meens ill be looking for snow chanes soon

Sure sounds like points to me. Have you checked the gap and alignment of the arm and the stationary part? I would also replace the condenser as one of it purposes is to keep the spark to a minimum helping to avoid rapid pitting.

Get back to the basics... it is not rocket science....

I suggest you go through the troubleshooting instructions in the Model A Ford Mechanic's Handbook.

If you don't want to do that, you can use a shotgun approach. Check the battery for proper voltage. Check all electrical wiring, clean connections and replace any suspect wiring. Replace the points, condensor, and coil. Clean the gas tank, install a strainer in the gas valve inlet, and rebuild the carburetor. Done correctly, that will eliminate problems with spark and fuel. If that does not fix it, you probably need to look for a vaccum leak. That is also easily solved with a little effort.

check to see that the ignition switch is not grounding out on the gas tank. There is not enough clearance for the prongs of a replacement switch.

Don't mean to nit-pic but it takes 4 things to get a start. Suck, Squeeze, Bang, and Blow. Without the squeeze you there is no blow.

Checked ignition growning out checked dist plate grounding out checked points gap checked timeing checked fule. next aproch is new maniflod gaskit
