My Model A Parts Hauler

Posting here because this is where my friends are, and they will appreciate the story.

In August of 1963, my grandfather bought a new Ford pickup in Antioch, California. A Ford Falcon Ranchero, with a 260V8 and Borg Warner 4 on the floor. Little did he know it was one of an estimated 135 built in '63.
In the summer of 1969, Betty and I honeymooned in California and Granpap let us use his truck for our transportation.
After Granpap passed away in 1990, his son in Walnut Creek got the truck. When he passed away, it sat outside.
After I rebuilt 3 model A's and showed photos to my Aunt, she said I should "do" Granpap's truck.
It arrived in Drippin' Friday. (actual mileage 101,160.0). It will be painted "Peacock Blue", it's original color.
It will remain in the family!

[Transport driver said that everywhere he stopped, guys aksed about the truck, no comments on the BMW, Lexus, Infinity etc.]

That is a RARE bird there!! Dad has a couple of 64 Falcons & Rancheros, and they are neat. I like the history that goes along with an automobile as it makes the rides & stories memorable. Congrats on the new Hauler finding it's way "home"!!

.

Pretty neat Tom. A friend of mine had a new Falcon convertable in highschool with the same drivetrain set up. Hot little car!
Thanks for sharing,
Pete

Nice rare car and looks like it should be easy to bring it back to it's original glory. Did someone steal the front grill, lights and hubcaps?

Isn't this what Dan Akroid had in that weird movie with John Belushi from the early 80s "neighbors" ?

I have had my 64 Ranchero since high school, nearly 20 years now. It is also a factory V8 4spd. The literature I have says 8% for 63, 6% for 64, and 2% for 65, of total yearly Falcon production had the 4spd, so they are quite rare now. Great little cars, the Model A of the 60s I say. I just picked up a 65 Convert for the wife.

Nice parts hauler tom always like falcons especially the ones with 4 speed and 260 cu inch....reminds me of wide oval tires and laying a scratch!!!

My Cousin started on the project and has gathered parts and pieces and removed grille and had it rechromed. He is shipping all to me. Did not want it loose in transport. Not sure about hubcaps.

A book I have describes Falcons as being the Models A of the 1960s: "Cheap but cheerful; simple but not spartan." I love my ('61) Falcon, and I really want an A for the same reasons.

Great car. Good luck with it.

My elderly neighbor has a 63? falcon ranchero the bought new quietly rusting away behind her barn.........need to go check it out...Dave

I worked on 64 falcons when they were brand new. I have always liked falcons and have had several, including a ranchero and a sedan delivery. I built up a 64 tudor hard top 20 years ago, with a hipo 289, 4 speed, detroit locker, and two four barrels sticking up through the hood. At one time I had 14 falcons behind the barn, all at once.

Tom From Dripping ..................
Those Falcons were good little cars.
When first married, we had a 1960 Falcon, which got totaled TWICE ! I, still, drove it to work. Tough little car. I never did fix it, even though I collected twice, and ended up giving it away as a parts car.
