That is some beautiful work! What kind of shape is the sheet metal in?
I always found the body work to be the most daunting part of a restoration for me.

I agree and know fully well that's where most of the time gets spent. It's amazing how many hours can be spent on (example) one fender making it perfect on both sides.
Metal work is all done and all done in metal :)
I am in the finishing stage - preparing for paint. The sheet metal was about what you'd expect. Back fenders were rough beneath the old paint. Lots of bondo hidden. I'd managed to find a nice pair of authentic fenders to work with.
Cab, front fenders and hood were actually pretty nice. The typical extra twenty holes in the firewall and soft cab corners. That's all repaired as well.

Beautiful job Mike. Is the spring pack painted assembled or apart. Do you use any lube between the leaves?
Bruce

First class as usual! Should get you primed to start another 40 wagon. LOL Bill

Thanks for the compliment.
Even though I tend to utilize NOS springs to restore the proper ride height and handling characteristics, I disassemble the springs and powder finish each individual leaf. Prior to reassembly, I place a thin coat of "fifth wheel" grease between each leaf.

Kube, don't know if I have seen you do a pickup before but it it's anything like the cars you it will be stellar ....

Thanks for the kind words. I have never restored a truck before. It's been kind of a treat so far. Not nearly as many pieces to redo :)
Still, lots of little things that I needed to research. I really want this truck to be 100% correct in every way.

Mike, did you figure which shock links are correct for the rear?

Well, not exactly. Books call out 3" links but there is simply not enough travel with the 3" to avoid bottoming out the shocks. I do know for certain I have the correct rear spring and of course, the correct shocks and arms.
I've been trying to get in touch with Larry Caplan but no luck with that thus far.
In the past, he has proven to be a wealth of information in regard to the pick up trucks.

Mike:

What I can see in your pictures looks good. I do not know why you have not been able to reach me...............Larry

In the front chassis photo do I see a stabilizer bar on the front end a'la '40 Deluxe car? Is that correct? Used on pickups? Optional?

Yes, that's a the stabilizer bar you see. As with all "commercial cars" as well as the Ford V8 passenger cars that were equipped with the 85 or 100 HP engines, this was an available "option".
