My Introduction...

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to take a second to introduce myself and thank everyone for letting me join in on the site. I have considered joining for a while now and finally pulled the trigger.

I am a San Diego resident that has grown up with old cars. My brother and I have shared a few cars over the years. My "early ford" is actually a Mercury, But contains mostly Ford parts. It is a 1948 Mercury 114X. Its a bastardized Mercury if you will that was made in Canada with Ford/Mercury parts. We got the car when I was in grade school 17 yrs ago.

My Dad got this rust bucket of a project for us to drive in highschool and we spent a lot of time, energy and $ to rebuild this car. We didn't even know the car was Canadian untill the rebuilding stage of the project and had a hard time getting the Mercury trim to fit the front fenders. Mom did some online research and found out it was built in Canada. I was always a little worried putting so much of our time and $ into a four door. Looking back now I am glad we had the determination to keep the project going. Wouldn't have it any other way! Attached are a few pictures of the car now.

Car runs with a '50 ford truck engine. Was rebuilt in San Jose buy Rod Fertado. Offy Equipt heads and intake. Dual 94 Carbs. Fenton headers lead to dual glasspacks. The Trans is a '39 ford toploader rebuilt by Jerry Jobe. Car is lowered 4" at both ends. We tried to get as much NOS parts as possible and have to credit All Ford in San Jose and C & G Ford in Escondido for supplying a lot of misc. parts.

This is my first post and hope to add many more. I know this car isn't completly back to original and hope it doesn't piss anyone off.

Once again, thanks!

Yes I do. He helped us with the motor work. Completly built this Flattie and did a great job with it. I was too young at the time of the rebuild to remember him much. From my understanding he was the "Go to" guy in northern CA to have a motor like this rebuilt. Any more info about him would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the FordBarn:), you'll find a mixed bag of people here, some like em "as Henry built em'" and others like to build em' as they like em'. Either way is fine with most. I build our cars/trucks to drive and enjoy:eek: and I think your Merc is a great looking car! Vic

who really cares how many non original parts are on it, if its old and runs thats fine, just drive the hell out of it and enjoy ever mile you put on it

welcome aboard! That is one nice Mercury! You will find out that most people on this site have several tasteful modifications to there cars.

Welcome to the Fordbarn. Bunch of great folks on here that can give you mostly good advice when you need it. That sure is a pretty Mercury.

Nice Car:cool: When we canucks bastardize something we do a dam nice job on it. LOL

Tiquer,

Haha sure do! Do you see many of these up there around you? Just curious cause they don't show up at all down here in Southern CA.

Neat car. You won't have to worry about seeing any twins. If it makes you happy that's all that counts.
