Hi fellow A enthusiasts! I was brought up around old cars as a kid. My grandfather had numerous cars from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. I can remember fondly of going for rides in his 1926 Buick Master Six and especially his 1934 Ford Phaeton or just sitting in his 1929 Model A Panel truck. My grandfather passed away way too early when I was 10. I'm 35 now and still miss him everyday but have those fond memories and that special bond of old cars with him that stay with me in my heart.
I decided a few months ago I was ready to start looking for my first Model A. I found a beautiful 1929 Roadster Pickup with a Mitchell and turn signals. I spoke with the gentleman on the phone for a couple a weeks and made plans to see it. I brought my cousin John who is a Model A enthusiast himself...he restored his 30 Coupe and is working on his 30 Briggs Sedan. We looked the truck over..it was beautiful. We spent a hour talking with the owner and I made him an offer. He went into the house to ask his wife and came out and said for another $500 it was mine. We shook hands and then he looked me in the eyes and said this..."Dan, you weren't leaving here today without buying my Model A. With getting to know you over the phone and hearing the stories about your grandfather I know you are the right person to own her. We are only caretakers of these fine machines and hopefully someday you will fine the person for it as well." I was so overcome with emotion I almost cried. I never thought buying a Model A would be so personal and emotional for me but it was. One of the first rides I went on was to the cemetery to visit grandpa...it was so emotional and very rewarding....I know he would be proud.
