I have towed trailers with my 49 F-1 3 speed 226ci 6. Rear axle is 3.73. With 6 volt system I can't use my electric brakes so braking is the biggest concern. I haul a 5 x10 trailer with 5 hit and miss engines, or my 16' car hauler posing as Christmas float or loaded with stationary engines. Nothing as heavy as a car, and short distances. It does the job and has not overheated.
I use a receiver hitch from a 73-87 Cxxxy truck which bolted up without alteration and allows use of the factory spare tire hangar and accessory rear bumper. Works really well.
