My 39

Hi all. Well I did it. I got me a 1939 Ford Standard. I have in my past 64 years owned two 40's one stock and one street rod. This 39 is a little in between so to speak. Stock engine with a T5 trans, open driveline and stock banjo rear. also has Fenton headers and new duel exhaust. I look forward in playing and driving around in this car and believe me I will have a lot of questions in the coming years.
Doug

Hi Doug. Great looking car! There is a terrific group of folks here with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Have fun with her. Steve

Nice, I also like the T5. Several places make the closed to open driveshaft kits, or you can use original Ford parts. Let us know how you are doing the mod, always interesting to follow.

Transmission and drive line already done. Previous owner had it done. It shifts great and don't have to use the first gear. Not sure which kit he used though. I just drove it around for about 15 miles or so on some pretty smooth new paved roads and could feel a lot of bounce. I am wondering if its the bias ply tires I am feeling. Car sit in storage for a good while. I use the beads in my motorcycle tires. Any one here use them in there car tires not sure how they would do in a bias tire.

Sounds like it has one of the S10 T5s in it with the low first gear.

One of Ford's best lookers.
Now you just need to get the 4 lower pieces of stainless trim that go on either side of the grille. and the 4 pieces of stainless trim that go either side of the hood side panels.
Maybe a set of 16 inch stainless beauty rings for the wheels also.
It will finish it off nicely.

Beautifull car, I would put on radial tire, the ride would be a lot smoother. I have 16in. Michlen tube type radials on my 31 Model A coupe, other than that the car looks stock, rides and handles great. Walt

X2 on the beauty rims.

Beautiful car! I bought a 1939 Ford Standard about a year ago as well. Funny! Has the optional 85hp with dual exhaust otherwise pretty stock. I would put some radials on it as well if you plan on doing a fair amount of driving. I am going to be getting some radials for mine this spring.

Nice,
Like that a lot.
Does sound like the S10 granny 1st trans. You can install proper gears in those transmissions where 1st is actually a useable gear, much, much nicer.
Still a great looking car.
I'd keep the bias plys on him, I love the look and drive fine, unless there rock hard 40 year old out of round cracked up nastiness.
Martin.
